Habitat for Humanity Expands Ramps and Rails Program

Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County has expanded its Ramps and Rails program, which builds handicapped accessible ramps for low and moderate income families in need. Residents in need of a handicapped ramp who own their own home, live there as a primary residence and earn less than 70% of area median income are eligible to apply. As Habitat for Humanity is a "hand up" and not a "hand out", they ask that residents contribute to 10% to 20% of the total project cost. A privately-constructed ramp could cost as much as $10,000. With the Ramps and Rails program, the average homeowners responsibility has been $750 or less.  Call 732-728-0441 ext. 311 for more information.
